Best Fine Art: pointing to the uncontrived by Hildy Maze
.Hildy Maze submitted paintings that she describes as "abstract contemplative works...developed with the view that art has the capacity to infuse our experience with awareness of our inherent nature, and, along with carefully chosen titles, invite viewers to move beyond the boundaries of the image to a more contemplative consideration of mind in relationship to the phenomena of what we consider object reality."
Maze writes her work aims to visually capture the internal veils that can obscure clear thinking, including uncontrolled emotions and errant beliefs, on the way to seeing what could become possible with a clear vision.
"By delving beneath the turbulence of thoughts we can uncover in ourselves a spaciousness behind all the discursiveness, changes and deaths of the world," she writes. "I view this as the most rebellious act of all imbued with social impact and non-conformism to actually recognize and cut through our habitual thought patterns to glimpse this spaciousness. Essentially my work is about all of us and the empty, clear and unconditional nature of mind we all have. When we know the nature of our mind we will know the nature of our world."

CRUSH CURATORIAL is pleased to present ALT-EGOS
curated by Scott Bluedorn/Neoteric Projects.
! “In a codified, commodified and often rigid art world, the artist is often stifled and
forced into a clearly identifiable box in order to be successfully marketed. Galleries and
institutions often pander according to taste, style and output, a practice that is limiting to
the artist and often retards or extinguishes the creative mind in favor of consistency of
brand. Yes, many artists are driven by obsession and fixation on particular forms and
ideas, but many also explore their art in various channels and mediums - often without
outlet or exposure.
! The premise of the exhibition ‘Alt-Egos’ is to illuminate work by artists that is
wholly different from that which they are known in the public eye. It is my belief that
many artists foster multiple creative canons in their investigations of the world, and
many have more than one outlet for their creativity. The ego in art can be synonymous
with ‘style’ or ‘manner’, and this exhibition would like to break that mold to offer the
viewer a new look at the chosen artists oeuvre. An ‘alter ego’ or pseudonym is very
liberating, it allows the artist to masquerade without self-consciousness, develop art that
investigates alternative concerns, and stretches new creative muscles.
! Artists selected for the show come from many stages of career, genre, mode,
and creative endeavor. Work selected reflects an alternate portfolio of each artist,
drawing from early work, experiments, side projects, hidden talents, and even crafts.”

A few comments......
"j'oubliais l'essentiel, c'est que je suis votre travail depuis quelques temps et j'aime beaucoup ... une belle énergie ainsi qu'une belle spiritualité s'en dégagent .... Phil
I forgot the main thing is that I have been your work for some time and I love ... a beautiful energy and a beautiful spirituality emerge "
Philippe Ringlet, Artist 2017"Though I don't work in a nonobjective manner my eye and mind tend to see in that manner if that makes sense!? And I appreciate most forms of art but find your creations so wonderfully heartfelt and pure, full of expression at the deepest level of raw communication. I don't think a lot of people, even artists, understand that it is something that isn't easy to do Hildy! What I love about your creations, they allow one's mind and imagination to expand, explore, to investigate, and really look without limits! They open the gates that allows one's Muse to play! "
Michael L. Murillo, Artist 2017"...confoundingly beautiful work, whose luminously layered and subtly encrusted
surfaces reveal intricate substructures that suggest endless depths of field."
Maureen Bloomfield, artistsmagazine.com 2016“…just went on the computer and saw this big and tears came to my eyes. Very moving” Magdalena Livolsi,Creator 2016
“I had a look at your site and found the work and your thoughts impressive and life enhancing.
Discovering the real is a great way to spend one’s time — congratulations. “ Milton Glaser. Graphic Designer 2016"bold and exquisite".....Winifred Rosen, Author and Editor,2016
“ Maze explores abstract/figurative painting, drawing and sculpture like an archaeologist, presenting ephemeral marks and shapes that speak to the discourse of impermanence, continuing change and the nature of mind. As objects that also symbolize the process of mind, the artist’s rustic representations feature textures and tones that suggest both archaeology and landscape.”
Jill O’Connor - curator, editor and founder of AS/Studios New York,2016
“ The work I have before me at this moment in time is by the artist Hildy Maze and has the title Visible thoughts mistaken appearances. To fully appreciate this particular kind of image it is perhaps necessary to refer to art at the beginning of the 20th century when artists such as Picasso, Kandinsky and others were exploring more than one way of viewing art than the traditional static single viewpoint-“
Anthony Leonard White 2016
“So beautiful work...the forms are emptiness and the emptiness is form.” Lloyd Brown 2016
“ fierce beauty unabashed…bravo This is the work of an American artist Hildy Maze- SHE is a master!”
Heither Midori Yamada - Artist/Teacher at Montréal Museum of Fine Arts
“This painting shows the artist's assault on those who think emptiness is mere nihilism instead of the totality of what is not the object of thought, senses, and sense objects, yet recognizable at the same time. Not a blankness but the totality of experience and non-experience despite our futile efforts to imagine it otherwise and reify what we think is.” Lee Weingrad, Founder/Director Surmang Foundation, Beijing, China 2015
“Hildy Maze writes and makes poetry. Her titles are written poetry--as crisp, insightful, provocative, descriptive as a haiku. Her artworks seem to be visual poetry: a visual poem, all at once.” Casey Lewis, Artist 2015
“ Nobody else is making art this good right now that I'm aware of.....which is doubly amazing because of the sustained excellence.” Casey Lewis, Artist 2016“Maze’s work is unique and refreshing... excellent.” Steve Ripley 2016

Investigating the Mind thru Art
excerpt from the article...
Reflecting on our intimate connection to the environment, I chose to work with environmentally friendly paper and materials making drawings, paintings and collages using oil and powder pigment. The drawing implements are found branches, mostly hake brushes and any thing that creates a mark. I refer to instructions from Trungpa Rinpoche that said art arises from a deep connection between mind and heart, seeing from within. In other words, drawing from pure awareness without visually grasping - beginning from uncertainty, without reference point. I devised a technique which allowed the essential nature to be drawn freely without judgment, to be spontaneous and personal.https://issuu.com/artrevealmagazine/docs/no_15/77

Biennial Roadshow Marfa 2014
Biennial Roadshow Marfa,Texas
Selected artists were presented in a digital display at The Biennial Roadshow Marfa 2014 Hoodang* (that is a reception for you non Texans) held at El Cosmico, a 18 acre nomadic hotel and campground in Marfa, Texas. The Biennial Project’s massive entourage stayed in Marfa that entire week to promote the show to local contemporary artists, residents and gallerists. This is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
You may ask why Marfa, Texas. Well for those of you who might not know, get all fired up because this tiny town perched on the high plains of the Chihuahua desert is nothing less than an arts world station of the cross, like Art Basel in Miami, or Documenta in Germany. It’s a blue-chip arts destination for the sort of glamorous scenesters who visit Amsterdam for the Rijksmuseum and the drugs. It all started when the acclaimed minimalist artist Donald Judd left New York City in the 1970s for this dusty dot of a town, wanting to escape the art scene he claimed to disdain. With the help of the DIA Foundation, Judd acquired an entire Army base, and before he died in 1994 he filled it with art, including light installations by Dan Flavin and Judd’s own signature boxes. Now it’s a whole creative community.Invitational silent auctions August 2014

Memory plays a role in the arts as both subject and process, as both pathway and obstacle to artistic production. An essential attribute of consciousness itself, memory is critical to every form of cultural and intellectual work, from the public memory engaged in by the historian and social scientist, to the private memory of the poet, the biographer, the memoirist, and particularly the visual artist. The exhibit explores concepts of memory, remembering, and memorializing, as artists register memory’s varied impact on their lives ad work.Reception March 14 7-9PM
